Speaker: Dr. Aria Crump

Aria Crump, Sc.D. is the Deputy Director of NIDA’s Office of Research Training, Diversity, and Disparities.  She transitioned into this role in 2023 after acting as a Program Official and as the Deputy Branch Chief in NIDA’s Prevention Research Branch.  She is trained as a behavioral scientist and public health professional specializing in the social, cognitive, and developmental aspects of risk-taking in adolescence and applications to preventive interventions. She leads a team in NIDA’s Office of the Director focused on NIDA’s research workforce diversity efforts and serves on the NIH Training Advisory Committee. Dr. Crump is a member of the NIH Social Determinants of Health Executive Committee, the NIH Diversity Catalysts Committee, and the NIH Environmental Justice Workgroup.  She co-leads the NIDA Racial Equity Initiative Workforce Workgroup, and was appointed to NIDA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility Steering Committee and Native American Coordinating Committee. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to promoting prevention science, empowering the next generation of NIH researchers, advancing health equity, and supporting diversity in the research workforce.

The aims of the DNC Speaker Series are to highlight research on prevention science and public health that is led by researchers from underrepresented groups and primarily conduct research with groups that are understudied (e.g., racial/ethnic minorities, individuals who identify as a sexual minority, individuals with disabilities). The presentation series will also aim to create a forum for the guest speaker(s) to share career/professional reflections as a researcher from an underrepresented group(s) and to promote discussions of diversity and inclusion in professions related to prevention science and public health.
