Overview of SPR Special Interest Groups and Meetings

Purpose of SIG Meetings

The Society for Prevention Research special interest groups (SIGs) promote professional connections and networking during the annual conference.

How to Request a SIG Meeting

Annually, conveners may request via the Call for Special Interest Group Meetings a time and meeting space on the annual meeting program to hold a one-hour SIG meeting during the Wednesday and Thursday lunch hour.

Starting in March 2024, expanded services will be provided to SIG conveners who will hold or have held SIG meetings between June 2021 and May 31, 2024. These include:

  1. SIG conveners may request to hold one, 60-minute, virtual SIG meeting between the annual conferences.
    1. These are optional opportunities that will be coordinated and hosted by SPR staff and hosted on Zoom.
    2. These virtual SIG meetings may be held from October through April.
    3. Requests should be submitted 60 days in advance of the month in which you would like to convene the virtual SIG meeting. The request should include name of conveners, institution, contact information, and preferred time frame to hold the virtual SIG meeting.
    4. The capacity is one every two weeks, depending on other SPR virtual events. Requests will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.
    5. Requests may be made by emailing Kristen Reamy, membership coordinator, at kristen@preventionresearch.org. Please include in the subject line: SPR virtual SIG meeting request.
    6. The virtual SIG meetings will be promoted via the SPR listserv, posting on the website, and social media.
  2. Active SIGs may be posted on the SPR SIG webpage. Posts may include:
    1. Convener’s contact information.
    2. How to join a SIG listserv or other communication opportunities hosted by SIG conveners.
    3. Announcements of SIG meetings, virtual, at SPR annual conference, or other opportunities
    4. SIG website, e.g., hosted through conveners’ institution
