Program Description

The Society for Prevention Research (SPR) is seeking applicants for a one-year program designed to support aspiring prevention scientists, with a focus on increasing representation of underrepresented populations in prevention science research.

Through this program, undergraduate students will be introduced to the field of prevention science and pathways to careers in the discipline. Participants will engage in virtual workshops and attend the SPR 2026 Annual Conference.

Eligibility

Eligible students must have completed a minimum of two years of post-secondary education and meet the definition of an underrepresented minority, as previously defined by NIH (see Google Form application for more information).

An SPR member must sponsor the student’s application, and both the member and student may receive financial support to attend the SPR conference.

This is a rigorous and competitive program that has a goal of assisting underrepresented undergraduate students in pursuing careers in prevention science. This is a 1-year program, and scholars are expected to remain actively engaged for the full length of the program. Scholars should be interested in prevention science and available to attend the SPR 2026 Annual Conference.

Application Procedures

Complete the Google Form application by March 14, 2025.
