Program Description
The Society for Prevention Research (SPR) is seeking applicants to a 1-year program to support aspiring prevention scientists with a focus on increasing underrepresented populations in prevention science research. Through this program, undergraduate students will receive an introduction to prevention science and how to pursue a career in prevention science through virtual workshops and SPR 2025 conference attendance.

Eligibility
Eligible students must have completed a minimum of two years post-secondary education and meet the definition of an underrepresented minority, as previously defined by NIH (see google form application for more information). A SPR member must sponsor the student’s application to the program, and both the member and student may receive financial support to attend the SPR conference.

This is a rigorous and competitive program that has the goal of assisting underrepresented undergraduate students in pursuing a career in prevention science. This is a 1-year program, and it is expected that scholars remain actively engaged for the full length of the program. Scholars should be interested in prevention science and available to attend the SPR 2025 conference.

Application Procedures
Complete this Google form application by March 14, 2024.

Graduate Programs in Prevention Science (PDF)

Seeking Information to Update the SPR List of Prevention Science Programs.  We appreciate your input.

Hi Everyone,

The Society of Prevention Research (SPR) provides information about Prevention Science graduate programs to provide prospective students and others in the field of Prevention Science a centralized source of information. Although SPR does not endorse any individual programs, and prevention scientists come from many different types of degree programs, the SPR Training Committee would like to gather information on programs and courses offered in prevention science to ensure we have captured the broad range of options available for graduate study in Prevention Science. We are also gathering information about undergraduate programs and other certificate programs to better understand the full scope of Prevention Science training available.

If you have a Prevention Science program or have Prevention Science content within your program (e.g., a certificate, minor, courses), we ask that you or your program representative (i.e., graduate advisor, graduate coordinator) complete the survey by December 16th to provide us with detailed information about your program (we only need one person per program to complete the survey). If you have multiple programs, we ask that you complete a separate survey for each program. For example, if you have both a terminal master’s program and a PhD program, please complete two surveys, one based on the terminal master’s program and one based on the PhD program. We anticipate it should take about 10-15 minutes to complete each survey.

Once we compile the information and review the programs for Prevention Science content, we will update our webpage to reflect any new Prevention Science graduate and undergraduate training options.

If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Dr. Keryn Pasch, kpasch@austin.utexas.edu.

We appreciate your time and assistance in compiling Prevention Science training information!

Thank you,

The SPR Training Committee
