Angel B. Algarin, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor at Arizona State University and a NIDA K01 Career Development Award recipient whose research focuses on addressing stigma as a fundamental driver of HIV-related health inequities through community-engaged, stigma-informed research. His work examines how social, structural, and healthcare factors shape HIV prevention and care among marginalized communities, particularly Latino sexual and gender minority populations.
In Research as Resistance: Advancing Health Equity in Challenging Times from an Early-Career Perspective, Dr. Algarin will share key findings from his research program, discuss emerging opportunities for health equity research, and reflect on pursuing equity-focused science during a time of growing challenges to public health. He will also offer lessons learned and practical advice for early-career investigators committed to advancing health equity through research.
