Speaker: José Arturo Bauermeister
Dr. José Arturo Bauermeister, MPH, PhD (he/him) is Albert M. Greenfield University Professor and Founding Faculty Director of the Eidos LGBTQ+ Health Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania. His research integrates perspectives from public health, social science, medicine and human sexuality to create behavior change interventions for adolescents and young adults. His work has been published in over 300 scientific publications and book chapters in the areas of HIV/AIDS, LGBTQ+ health, behavioral health, and cognitive and emotional well-being. He has received over $40 million in funding as principal investigator and over $200 million as co-investigator in federally-funded research. Dr. Bauermeister is Fellow of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, an Aspen Institute Health Innovators Fellow, and a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
The aims of the DNC Speaker Series are to highlight research on prevention science and public health that is led by researchers from underrepresented groups and primarily conduct research with groups that are understudied (e.g., racial/ethnic minorities, individuals who identify as a sexual/gender minorities, individuals with disabilities). The presentation series will also aim to create a forum for the guest speaker(s) to share career/professional reflections as a researcher from an underrepresented group(s) and to promote discussions of diversity and inclusion in professions related to prevention science and public health.
